Product ReviewsCustomers have given Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous [1978] an average customer review rating of 3.0 out of 5. The latest reviews have been displayed below. Great Concert poor sound quality After waiting so long to get this concert on DVD I feel let down. The 3 best tracks are missing, COWBOY SONG/SUICIDE/THE ROCKER. What we do get are 2 excellent live shows but who mixed the sound? I have DTS and it sounded like a cheap stereo, surely a bit more effort could have been taken. If you want to see Thin Lizzy when they were on top form and can put up with crap sound then buy it. At Last - What us Lizzy Fans always knew was 'out there' No doubt like so many long standing Lizzy Fans I always knew that these two gems would be released and finally put to shame the endless stream of previously issued DVD's of either poor quality concerts or complete ignoramces trying to give their expert opinion on Lizzy, The Albums and the complex and genious of the Late Great Phil Lynott. Rainbow '78 and Hitchin '83 are the two that count forget the rest. The '78 concert is the band at their finest with the classic Gorham and Robertson combo that sparks and kicks and you feel the energy of the band with no gimmicks just down right hardworked well crafteed rock music. The Hitchin concert is to me what Lizzy were all about - I can remember taping this from BBC 2 in Feb in 83 and played it to death. All the songs from the Thunder and Lightning Album that were played in the live set are better than the studio Album which came out in early March. I was actually disapponited with the studio Album because the Live Sight and Sound versions were and still are better. The sight and sound concert was the start of the Lizzy Farewell concert and captures their energy. Please,Please don't buy the Dublin concert as this is shameful and clearly shows the rails had come off the track at that stage. This is how we want to remember Lizzy. Does the sight and sound concert reflect a band on their way out-- I think not. Respect to this band and thankyou for releasing this. DOn't buy anything else. The 'Son' goes down - Phil we now no what you were going through. LIke all legends (Its better to burn out than to fade away) Philo- RIP Dangerous to your pocket I would give this 5 stars for content and 1 star for the surround mix. The package and variety of extras in addition to the long awaited Rainbow concert are excellent and another great example of how to package a set to make it interesting for the long time fan. I cannot believe how awful the surround mix sounds. It seems like the bass all comes out the front centre and the front left and right sound is way too low. To be sure it wasn't my set up I listened to the stereo mix as well and that doesn't sound great either, not nearly as clear as the sight and sound concert bonus. Buyer beware! Not live but a bit dangerous This is just a rehash of a promotional video that has been available on DVD before as "Thin Lizzy live at the Rainbow". Honestly i feel a bit ripped off. I was huge Lizzy fan in the 70's loved the live and dangerous LP (still do) and saw 10 or so live shows from Oxford in 76 to Reading in 83. The problem with Live and Dangerous however is that it wasnt actually live. As a period piece on how the band looked it has value, but as a record of Thin Lizzy live in concert - not so good. The producer of Live and Dangerous LP Tony Visconti used to have the facts on his web site and then took it all down when he realised he could make money by writing a book. Only the drums and the crowd noise were live - everything else was re-recorded in the studio. The reason i give this 3 rather than 1 stars is the extras. The interviews are good. Brian Robertson gives an honest rather than sentimental view of band life at the time, Brian Downey seems like a great guy, Scott Gorham is a bit ex-junkie now i'm nice to everyone but it was still good to see. Its good to finally see the Hitchin concert made available and i havent seen the Derby show on bootleg before. There are some great real live shows out there - the BBC recorded lizzy a lot of times it would be nice if they could have put these on as well. What you see with the TOTP video stuff is alternate versions because BBC uniuon rules used to force acts to re-record the material for TV. Then they used to mime to the re-recordings. Weird huh but it does give you a different take on some of the songs. Wait for the price to drop. Worth it at £7 pounds not at £20. some extra info The other reviewers have it pretty well covered, so I'll just add a few things that came to my mind. The overall quality of this set is fantastic. It is incredibly entertaining and you get a lot for your money. The interview section is 45 minutes long, not 25 and it's pretty good. These guys are some characters! Especially Brian Robertson, who after all these years still seems to harbor some very apparent resentment toward Phil Lynott. Very entertaining and informative. The booklet, though informative , is very poorly written. A few sentences I had to reread to understand. I guess rock experts aren't supposed to be Dickens. I don't think this detracts from the overall quality of this set, it's just kind of annoying/funny. Both concerts are great, although it's sad to see Lynott in such sad physical condition during the Sight & Sound show. I live in the US and ordered this (it's not in stores here, likely due to the fact that this band really doesn't get the proper respect in the US) completely forgetting about the issue of different DVD regions. The product info on this page is incorrect. This is not a Region 2 DVD, it is Region 0, which means it will play on any player worldwide, including mine. What a relief.
