Product DescriptionThere's an extra coat of hot wax on Pixar's vibrant, NASCAR-influenced comedy about a world populated entirely by cars. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the slick rookie taking the Piston Cup series by storm when the last race of the season (the film's high-octane opening) ends in a three-way tie. On the way to the tie-breaker race in California, Lightning loses his way off Route 66 in the Southwest desert and is taught to stop and smell the roses by the forgotten citizens of Radiator Springs. It's odd to have such a slim story from the whizzes of Pixar, and the film pales a bit from their other films (though can that be a fair comparison?). Nonetheless, Cars is another gleaming ride with Pixar founder John Lasseter, who's directing for the first time since Toy Story 2. There's the usual spectrum of excellent characters teamed with appropriate voice talent, loads of smooth humor for kids and parents alike, knockout visuals, and a colorful array of sidekicks, including a scene-stealing baby blue forklift named Guido. Lightning's plight is changed with the help of former big-city lawyer Sally Carrera (Pixar veteran Bonnie Hunt), the town's patriarch Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), and kooky tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy). The Incredibles was the first Pixar film to break the 100-minute barrier, but had enough story not to suffer; Cars, at 116 minutes (including some must-see end credit footage), is not as fortunate, plus it never pierces the heart. Trivia fans should have bonanza with the frame-by-frame DVD function; the movie is stuffed with in-jokes, some appearing only for an instant. Product ReviewsCustomers have given Cars (2006 - Disney/Pixar) an average customer review rating of 4.0 out of 5. The latest reviews have been displayed below. Brilliant animation, film a bit lacking The animation in cars is superb. In some places it is hard to distinguish from live action. Unfortunately the film itself is a little long, and lacking in substance. I didn't think it was too bad but the kids gave up after half an hour saying they were bored with it. The other reviews seem split down the middle - love it or hate it. This is more of a middle of the road review (no pun intended,)as I felt it was an ok film that looks spectacular. Excelent This DVD is like one of the family My 3 year old has worn this DVD out and I am now ordering a new one. He has watched this film to descruction and each time sits through from the start to the end. It also was great for adults to watch with their kids, the bonus feature at the end shows how the film elvolved from the hay day of route 66 to the run down towns today. Even the tow truck (Mator) looks like the recovery driver on the footage. I cannot reccomend this film high enough for content and entertainment. PIXAR, whats happened? This is the first animation, i have had to take back to the shop! The dreadful storyline left my three year old cousin falling to sleep! I usually love animations eg. open season, hood winked, even flushed away was good! But this is an abomintaion! By pixar aswell! Seriously how can people stand to watch this. This is the storyline: Cars drive about! Isn't that amazing! TO BE HONEST IT RANKS WITH THE WORST FILMS EVER MADE! :(:(:( Hopefull the new film ratatouille will be btter! A super charged racing car of a film My four year old son and I sat down on Friday to watch Cars, and I'm not sure who enjoyed it more! First of all, the film looks amazing. The animation is full of detail, (some scenes so hyper real I felt as though I was watching real life,) the colours are vibrant and punchy, and the action sequences are smooth. It sounds amazing too, with the 5.1 mix putting you in the middle of the action, especially in the racing sequences the bookend the film. Some people have complained the that the story is a little thin; well maybe so, but it is a children's film, and this 43 year old kid didn't feel the minutes dragging by like I have in many other films. There are some fine action sequences, a compelling change of heart by the main character, and a heartwarming finale. On another note my appreciation of the film was enhanced knowing that Paul Newman voiced 'Doc' - and I get a tingle every time I hear his voice, thinking of all the fine films he's made, and his success as a racing driver (once finishing the Le Mans 24 hour race in 2nd place.) But, more importantly, my four year old boy loved Cars, and continues to talk about it. Recommended. Boring! What a boring film! Kids walked out, whilst others fell asleep! Not much more to say really. Submit Your ReviewTo submit your review of Cars (2006 - Disney/Pixar) you must first login / register.
