great box set the best sci fi ever this is a great show and u must buy it but avoid buying direct from amazon as it has taken them 5 days short of a month to get the set to me and it still not arrived not bad for 1st class post why did i pay for 1st class lol????? but to be fair it not even left the warehouse yet!! but do buy the box set as it the best ever to grace our screens

the best ever i've had farscape of quite while now (seperate seasons) and have watched it twice it is unbelievely good for a space si-fi nothing comes close i would have given it 6 stars but 5 were max

Like Firefly - but lasts for 90 episodes... and is even better!!!!!! Love Firefly? Got an I.Q.? Won't settle for second best? Have a social life that widdles all over that of an Andromeda or Voyager fan? Then you'll love Farscape... Before Farscape arrived on the scene one early evening on BBC2 I'd been a fan of Deep Space 9. Well, when I say 'fan' I mean that out of a 22 episode DS9 season about 3 episodes would be good and the remaining 19 would pass the time without actually being particularly interesting... but hey, there was no other sci-fi on t.v. so I watched them regardless, and at least they were better than enduring the Next Generation (a series so pompously dull that even the Borg became boring). And then suddenly BANG!!! Farscape exploded onto the screen, a sci-fi series where at least ninety percent of a given season's episodes were fantastic and the remaining ten percent were merely very good. Don't believe me? Each 45 minute episode crammed so much incident into it that it felt more like one and a half hours had just whizzed passed. Farscape threw out more ideas in an episode than DS9 and and TNG did a season (for instance at one point John Crichton gets duplicated, a storyline that in Star Trek - or any other series - would have constituted a single episode. Here Farscape took the idea and ran with it - and it's consequences - for the best part of a season). Anyway I'm running out of space so here's a quick overview - Season 1: Good, often very, very good, and the last few episodes will leave you breathless, although occasionally some of the CGI hasn't held up that well (just like most other sci-fi CGI) and there are a handful of filler episodes while the writers search for a direction). Season 2: Farscape really hits it's jaw dropping stride. The whole season explodes with characters and ideas, leaving other sci-fi series choking in it's wake, and widdling all over ST: Voyager from a great height. Season 3: Just when you think the series can't get any better it does... and then some. There's no other way of describing it, this season is just staggeringly jaw dropping from start to finish. Outstanding. Season 4: The reason - in retrospect - Farscape got cancelled. For the first 8-ish episodes the writers completely drop the ball and lose the plot completely. Some are adequate, a couple are atrocious. But DON'T DESPAIR, because after these episodes are out of the way it rapidly starts ascending the heights again, leaving most other sci-fi in it's wake... but it's too late. Stargate SG1 ain't anywhere near as good but has more fans, so the Sci-Fi Channel drops Farscape to pay for new Stargate episodes... and to add insult to injury Ben Browder and Claudia Black wind up being recruited into it's ranks. Season 5 mini series - Peacekeeper war: miraculously, after having cancelled Farscape before it's time, Sci-Fi were persuaded to bring it back for one last hurrah. Peacekeeper War ties up a lot of loose ends (for instance in a throw away moment that most other series would have laboured over for an entire episode, it's explained exactly why peacekeepers/sebaceans look remarkably like humans) but naturally enough it's all over too soon... although let's face it, it's a miracle we even had this. In short, Farscape's greatness (and as it turned out it's Achilles heel) is that whilst most episodes were self contained stories, many of it's background plots stretched over several episodes, severely taxing the I.Q.'s of any Andromeda fans that happened to stumble across it on t.v. In fact despite all the gunfire exploding across the screen more than half of Farscape's fans were apparently women, which I suppose says it all in a world where spotty fanboy morons happily endured Andromeda despite the fact that even they knew that it was complete and utter pants... But trust me - if you loved Firefly then you'll love Farscape, and as villains go Scorpius is up there with Vader. God, I almost forgot... FARSCAPE HASN'T ACTUALLY FINISHED!!! The Sci-Fi channel have commissioned a series of 3-6 minute 'Webisodes' that will air on Sci-Fi and then the internet in 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

absolutely amazing!!!! after not having watch it for a while, (but remembering that it was brilliant) i bought this set as it works out cheaper then buying the individual series on their own. i have to say im not at all dissapointed. it's worth the £249 it was previously listed at, so now when i got it at the lower price of £130 its a complete bargain. 42 discs with over 75 hours of entertainment, (thats over 3 whole days worth of it) and its not like some series which get boring after a while, THIS grabs you by the arms and just doesnt let go. its not your normal sci-fi, its not your normal drama, its something completely unique and unbelievably enjoyable. the case itself is longer then i expected and seriously the picture here doesnt do it justice, theres millions of little intricate details that you dont see untill you have it there in your arms. the exclusive content on the discs is now a must for most dvd's nowadays, and this set is no different, with audio commentary from the actors available for most of the episodes (well the ones i've watched so far) and exclusive content for the boxset which is a healthy addition to the complete set. this is the first and last complete set of farscape, so you dont have to worry about splashing out for a new one in a couple of years time which is another of the sets many plus'. so if your a farscape fan, buy it now!!! if your not, maybe have a look at a couple of episodes like the pilot episode before you start spending this amount on it, if your a sci-fi fan and looking for something fullfilling but a little different then this is it, and rather then buying it more expensively and in seperate dvds buy this instead, its a lot to fork out, but you'll be saving in the long term, and you wont be dissapointed. A must have!!!!!

The best science fiction is always about Earth Congratulations to Contender for finally making this unforgettable series available in a complete box set (including the mini-series finale Peacekeeper Wars). If there was ever a series - sci-fi or otherwise - which deserves to be watched from start to finish, Farscape is it. It has been said that the best science fiction is always about Earth. While most episodes of Farscape take place in galaxies far away, its tie to Earth is always maintained in the person of the main character, astronaut and physicist John Crichton. Furthermore, Crichton's Earth is contemporary. Earth as we know it right now. The opening episode's first image is of Crichton watching the sun rise over the familiar shuttle launch pad at Cape Canaveral. He is about to board the shuttle in a space module of his own design, to test a theory he's just developed regarding propulsion outwith Earth's gravity. He figures this will be a routine flight and test - he's been up in the shuttle a couple of times before - but Crichton is in for what can only be mundanely described as a 'life-changing moment.' No sooner has he entered space and begun the trial in his module, than Crichton is engulfed by a wormhole - a tornado in space - which appears out of nowhere between the Earth and the Moon. He and his module are shot down the wormhole's funnel in a gut-churning sequence, then spat out the other end into the middle of a space battle, elsewhere in the Universe! The shocked Crichton and his module are scooped up by a huge ship called a Leviathan, populated by only three escaped convicts - (1) a bald woman with blue skin, (2) a male warrior with tentacles, a loud voice and a short temper, and (3) a selfish little despot who resembles a hairy slug riding a pillow! Turns out these three convict aliens have just stolen the ship and are being pursued and fired upon by the current rulers of their bit of space, a group of human-like aliens called Peacekeepers. Of course Crichton's first goal - after survival! - is to get back 'home.' However, as the series progresses, this goal becomes more complicated and less clear-cut. As the old song says: how can you keep them happy down on the farm, when they've seen Berlin? (And received Translator Microbes??) Through Crichton as 'Everyman' we get to watch humans interacting with 'aliens' who, amusingly and disturbingly, aren't actually all that interested in Earth or humans. In fact, most of them regard Crichton as a weak specimen, annoying and lacking intelligence. They have no idea where Earth might be, and they don't much care. We certainly identify with Crichton and his trials and tribulations with these alien societies, but it turns out Crichton is NOT Everyman - not even EveryAmerican. Crichton is an individual human being with his own strengths and weaknesses. As the series moves toward conclusion, we slowly realise our mistake in believing Crichton is Everyman, and begin to see where this will lead us. The central story arc revolves around Crichton's search for Earth and the meaning of 'home' and 'humanity.' Farscape's other major story arc is a most believable and heartbreaking love story between Crichton and the troubled Peacekeeper deserter named Aeryn Sun. Both story arcs get resolved by the end, I'm happy to report. Indeed, I can't recollect any TV series - sci-fi or not - which has been so strongly focused for five (almost!) seasons, and so satisfactorily concluded. Season One is vital for understanding the series, and is totally enjoyable to watch, but unlike most other TV series, Farscape actually gets stronger season by season. Season Four provides the most memorable and shattering moments of the lot, with the exception of the wonderful final scene in Peacekeeper Wars, which actually finishes the story. Many other series start strongly then fizzle out. Not this one. It's a corker, from Day One. (Farscape was meant to have had five complete seasons, but the Sci-Fi channel pulled the plug on production after the fourth season wrap, due to 'high production costs.' Fortunately the channel was later persuaded by Farscape's appalled fan base to at least finish the story with the truncated 4-part Peacekeeper Wars. It's a bummer that there is no more new Farscape to come, but what is contained in this collection will provide around 90 hours of mesmerising viewing, as well as many subsequent years of contemplation, re-viewing and debate.) I can't recommend Farscape highly enough. Many people who do not normally watch science fiction have been hooked by this series - providing they started at the beginning and understand where Crichton is coming from. Why? Because the story is believable and accessible, despite its strange locale. You love Crichton immediately, because of his wacky sense of humour, his intelligence, his compassion, and ability to roll with the punches. The other characters wow your socks off, including the most compelling villain (Scorpius) ever committed to film. Remember, nothing and no one in Farscape is ever what they seem to be at first, and none of the myriad plots end the way you think they will. Take nothing for granted and keep an open mind! Another lesson to learn from Farscape. Farscape still makes me cry, sweat, gulp, laugh my head off (figuratively), jump out of my chair with glee (literally, at least twice!), and THINK THINK THINK - every time I watch it. All this and complete entertainment as well? Can anyone ask for more? Do shell out for this magnificent Farscape box set. I know it seems expensive, but you will watch it again and again, and you will never be sorry.
