Product DescriptionTake the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the strong suit of the franchise, as the film excels during its stunt pieces, which are impressively extravagant (in particular a three-way swordfight atop a mill wheel). It may help to know that Dead Man's Chest was filmed simultaneously with some of Pirates 3, so don't expect a complete resolution (think more The Empire Strikes Back) or the movie will feel a lot longer than it really is. Bloom shows a tad bit more brawn this time around, but he's still every bit as pretty as the tomboyish Knightley. (Seriously, sometimes you think they could swap roles.) Bill Nighy (Love, Actually) weighs in as Davy Jones and Stellan Skarsgård appears as Will's undead father. But the film still belongs wholly to Depp, who in a reprise of his Oscar-nominated role gets all the belly laughs with a single widened eyeliner-ed gaze. He still runs like a cartoon hen and slurs like Keith Richards--and he's still one of the most fascinating movie characters in recent history. --Ellen A. Product ReviewsCustomers have given Pirates Of The Caribbean : Dead Man's Chest (2 Disc Special Edition) [2006] an average customer review rating of 3.5 out of 5. The latest reviews have been displayed below. Much worse than I expected. I'd seen the awful reviews and been warned that it was nowhere near as good as the first film. Bearing this in mind I often find that going into a film with low expectations can lead to being pleasantly surprised. It seemed to start reasonably well and although, most of the time, it felt like it was just plodding along, filling in time 'till the next film, it at least gave the impression it might be building towards something interesting. Unfortunately the film then descended into a series of the most tediously unexciting CGI/stunt set pieces I've yet to see come out of Hollywood. None of the characters(including Jack Sparrow) retained any of the charm or chemistry they had in the previous picture and you find it impossible to care about what happens to them. It never ceases to amaze me, when you consider the sums involved, surely by diverting a bit more into the script writing... It's all so short-sighted since all those people who feel cheated this time will be less likely to trust the hype for the 'next big thing'. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this film is they've finally given us the movie that everyone predicted the first one would be. As an exercise in accountancy and marketing this is a winner but as entertainment it falls very flat indeed. Entertaining reviews Who cares about the film when the reviews are so hilarious. Various intellectually challenged film critics refer to "awsum" (awesome), "sceans" (scenes), "threequel" (trilogy), "predicable" (predictable), "board" (bored), oh my god, and this is only one film of many. We hear that it is apparently quite in order to return a film because it did not suit your taste? I would say tough luck Mr. Chance. Also, film companies might instead branch out into the construction industry to subsidize governmental shortcomings by building a hospital. Under the circumstances I think schools might be more appropriate. Let me try this now: "Give me a brake you loosers. Get reel." J'adore! I simply cannot BELIEVE that people do not love this film! It is by far one of my all time favorites. PotC is an amazing series of films and I absolutley love them! I really recommend this item! Just not good enough This film is a fine example of the idea that an enormous budget does not a good film make. Yes, you have a fair galaxy of beautiful people to look at, i.e. Knightley, Depp, Bloom etc, and yes, the effects are truly awesome, but the script is a mess, the film drags awfully in places and is a good half an hour to 45 minutes too long. The seemingly endless squabbling and fighting on the beaches is almost too much to stand at times. And can someone please ensure that next time they are in a film can Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley try and play a different character for a change. I loved the Curse of the Black Pearl, it was good fun, pitched at just the right level and had absolutely no need for a sequel or the inevitable threequel. For the amount they spent on this they could have built a hospital somewhere. And it would have been more entertaining to watch. argh like the one before it, this film is awsum. great fight sceans. amazing special effects. and a brilliant story line. i do agree with the other reviews that it does drag out in places and can be quite boring. but i loved it all the same well worth a look!
