Skin And Bones (Audio CD)

Interesting - in places The problem I have with this cd is probably that I'm not the world's biggest Foo Fighters fan. (So why buy it? I'll explain...) I like quite a few of their singles, have a lot of respect for Dave Grohl and I own and like their first album, but I can't get away from hoping they'd be a better band than they are. It's unfair to compare this to Nirvana's Unplugged album, but I bought, (fairly) recently, an acoustic Pearl Jam cd - another band that I thought were pretty good but not quite in the Cobain league. And I thought that was brilliant. Therefore, it seemed logical: buy an acoustic Foo Fighters album and be similarly blown away. It has some stand out moments on it. 'Walking After You' is great, 'Everlong' is obviously great, 'Best of You' actually seems a better song when screamed out over an acoustic guitar than it did when released as a band track. I was a bit disappointed with the version of 'Big Me' as the main appeal of that song is its bouncy, ironic pop feel and that gets stripped away here - it's almost made into a ballad. And at the risk of offending serious Foo Fighter fans, I never did get what 'My Hero' was all about - it just sounds really cheesy to me. I'm sure die hard fans will love it, but I just found it a mixed bag. Glad I bought it for the stand-out bits, but if I take it out in the car I need another couple of cds for the rest of the journey as I skip over a lot of it.

superb this album/concert is so good i went out and bought a very expensive very loud and very shiny new stereo to play it on. there isn't a bad track on it and even my mum likes it.

Pointless I love the Foos but this just didn't work for me. I've never quite understood live albums - it's never going to be anything like being there so why bother? - Definately the most annoying thing was the amount of crowd noise. I want to listen to Dave Grohl not a load of drunken fans. I found I'd just be getting into a track when someone fool would wolf whistle, bellow or shout "YEAH!" in an annoying frat boy voice. Save your money and put it towards some tickets I say.

A sequal to Nirvana unplugged? When buying askin and bones I was hoping for the nearest thing i would ever get to Nirvana's unplugged in new york. It was not the same but i can not say I was disapointed. Featuring 2 of Nirvana's band members skin and bones is still no nirvana record. But,it is still a good record none the less delivering great songs in an original format. Which is rare considering acoustic or 'unplugged' performances are alot more normal and ess important than they once were. Using a variety of instruments and Dave Grohl front man of the show Skin and bones delivers some great songs such as February stars. Songs such as Best of you isn't that good in an unplugged format but overall it is a great and inspiring album with some great songs performed with great emotional delivery. For me the stand out song 'Friend of a friend' written about Kurt Cobain lifts the albums significance futher as Dave is telling the crowd face to face that without Cobain this concert probably wouldn't have ever happend. Grohl is fantastic throughout and so is the album! 'Over And Out!'

Genius is an overused word but here it's deserved Now, I am genuinely not one for pretentious reviewer speak but hear goes...In Your Honor was simply the best album of the decade so far despite the shamefully lukewarm reception it received. The undeniabe visceral power of Best of You and the strangely haunting Over and Out is incredible. It can bring tears to your eyes. Impressive performances of older Foo songs can be found here such as the excellend February Stars. Simply incredible. Listen to the acoustic side of In Your Honour ... enjoy it!
