Product DescriptionThe weirdness of actor Nicolas Cage and the weirdness of science-fiction author Philip K. Dick seem like a natural fit. The premise, taken from a short story by Dick, is a good one: A mediocre Las Vegas magician named Chris Johnson (Cage) can see into the future--but only about two minutes at the most. Just enough to pull off his act and to make some money at the gambling tables, so long as he's discreet. Unfortunately, he hasn't been discreet enough; a government agent (Julianne Moore) has sussed out his precognitive talent and wants to use him to track down terrorists. But all Johnson cares about is a beautiful young woman (Jessica Biel, The Illusionist) that he can see in his future--much further in his future than he's ever seen before. Next has flashes that point to a much, much better movie than it turned out to be. A sequence in which Johnson, clairvoyantly explores all the different permutations of how he might approach his mystery woman is both funny and thought-provoking, and when Johnson avoids pursuers by knowing just the right moment to turn a corner or duck his head, it's smart and suspenseful. Unfortunately, the terrorist part of the plot is utterly perfunctory and precognition is reduced to an action movie gimmick. Somewhere in there is the kernel of a romantic comedy about precognition that's just waiting to be made. Cage gives a solid if unsurprising performance, Moore is basically earning a paycheck, but Biel is unexpectedly good (and her part is considerably better-written than your usual romantic interest); her performance suggests a better future than anyone might have predicted. --Bret Fetzer Image GalleryClick on a thumbnail on the left to view a larger image on the right.

Product ReviewsCustomers have given Next [2007] an average customer review rating of 3.0 out of 5. The latest reviews have been displayed below. P K Dick the best! Any story by Phillip K Dick makes a movie worth watching, Minority Report, Total Recall, Blade Runner, Through a Scanner........this is no exception a very good film. ok - not developed as far as it could have been Next is a reasonable and watchable film. It's ending suggests a follow up in the near future. Either that or the producer couldn't quite think where to go next. Jessica Biel is wasted as not much more than eye candy. Whilst Julianne Moore does a great job as the FBI agent who eats nails for breakfast. Nicolas Cage looks a bit off colour in this, as if he used too much stage make up - not an imporant point, just couldn't help but notice. Over all just ok viewing not as good as I had hoped. Pretty lame plot, but fun. This has the same basic idea as "Sliding Doors", namely the exploration of alternative futures. It is an action thriller which is fun to watch, provided you suspend your belief in reality completely and sit back to enjoy a pot-pourri of Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and an urban shoot-fest at the end. sometimes not knowing is best bought this film one day when bored didnt really pay to much attention to what it was really about but put it on and was plesently surprised following cages previous release about the bloke on a motor bike with his head on fire ,whoops just given the whole plot away.this film is not too bad it is just a good take your brain out and enjoy kind of film nice! this film was a pleasent surprise to me and my boyfriend. I originally wasn't too keen to view this because sometimes nicholas cage tends to do my head in and play the same roles and i also find i generalize action films as all being the same. However this was a brilliant plot, a twisted story of a man knowing what's going to happen 2 minutes before it does (very handy) and this leads to him unravelling a bomb plot which involves the new loce of his life, Liz. The only things i disliked were the poor, weird ending and Nicholas Cage's dodgy hair! Submit Your ReviewTo submit your review of Next [2007] you must first login / register.
