Product DescriptionRec starts with a good, solid, straightforward idea. Its plan? To focus us on TV reporters, who are following a group of firemen as they go about their shift. Said shift, however, doesn't quite go to plan, as what starts as a seemingly standard rescue mission soon takes a disturbing, chilling turn, and this sets the scene for a very effective horror film. One of the reasons why Rec works so well is the manner in which it's shot. It's not the first film to adopt the handheld shooting style, and indeed there have been many clichéd attempts to follow the success of The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield. Yet the style suits Rec well, with the photography less a gimmick, and more a legitimate storytelling device. It's fair to say that Rec is a dish best served cold, so it'd be unfair to expand on the plot. However, be in no doubt that the mix of psychological creepiness and outright horror is very good, making the most of the claustrophobic surroundings, and wisely sidestepping many of the pitfalls of the genre. It has one or two problems, but it's hard to quibble too much when the main feature works as well as this low-key, yet ultra-effective film does. --Jon Foster Image GalleryClick on a thumbnail on the left to view a larger image on the right.

Product ReviewsCustomers have given Rec [2007] an average customer review rating of 4.0 out of 5. The latest reviews have been displayed below. Don't believe the hype. I was expecting alot from this film after all the reviews I had read. How dissapointed I was having sat through one of the most boring films I have ever seen. This film is not scary get a life. super scary! Highly inventive super scary flick. A true gem and not to be missed by any horror/thriller/scary films' fans! Jumped out of my skin Dont be put off by the fact that this film is in spanish - i didnt even realise when i decided to watch it. The subs go fairly slow so its easy to keep up. It can also make it scarier at points because your so focused on reading the subtitles that when something jumps up you really didnt know it was coming. This film has gore and suspence and will scare you no matter what your horror type. It has the clastrophobic element, the gore and the "that could really happen element" possessed by other great films like 28 days/weeks later and doomsday. It just gets Scarier and Scarier... You start by watching, through the camera, a camera man and a woman reporter, making some kind of documentary about fire fighters. They follow the firefighters who are going to help a woman in an apartment. It just seems like an ordinary, unedited film when suddenly, I won't spoil it, but things get messy. The use of the handheld camera is brilliant, even if we have seen it in "Blair witch" and, more recently, "Cloverfield", it really keeps the tension and you find yourself biting your nails and sitting forward, possibly even looking away, because you can't really see what's going on and then it suddenly jumps out, making you jump or maybe even scream! The ending was so scary! It was disgusting, but you don't really see any gore, it was really just stuff that sends the chills down your spine. So it was a little slow to start, but you start to work out what has happened, but (although some say it's boring) the actionless scenes add to the realism. And when the scary parts do come, they are fast, furious and ,if not that, painfully tense. I still can't get over that ending, that thing walking around in the dark, screeching, sniffing, half naked; It'll be playing over and over in my mind when i try to get to sleep. Ignore it not being in English, the subtitles are worth the effort of reading, because you end up with a horrifying, realistic journey that with scare you, make you jump- It's everything you could want in tense, terrifying horror. Biggest disappointment Having read lots of reviews & watching the trailer this was one horror film I was really looking forward to. Its watchable but I wouldn't bother watching it again. Lots of holes in the story line, the infected characters weren't scarey enough & the whole film was predictable including the end. The best part of the film is the final 5 minutes however that was nothing original. My biggest gripe is the lack of originality. Seen it all before in other movies which have done it better. Borrow someones copy before buying your own. I'm glad I did & have now cancelled the copy I had on order. Submit Your ReviewTo submit your review of Rec [2007] you must first login / register.
