Product DescriptionChristian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman, Eric Roberts Product DescriptionThe Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne. In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi Image GalleryClick on a thumbnail on the left to view a larger image on the right.

Product ReviewsCustomers have given The Dark Knight (2 Discs) [Blu-ray] an average customer review rating of 4.5 out of 5. The latest reviews have been displayed below. ...why so serious :)... Well, I must admit that the movie is simply AWESOME...sooooo GREAT in many aspects....words fail me... Watch it on Blu-ray (at least 2 times :) ) Recommended!!!! Great Movie!! What a great movie it is! And now in Blu-Ray Disc, it's just wonderful. And those IMAX scenes, breathtaking!! Totally Recommended. Special features let this title down. I'm not going to write an indepth review of the film (its excellent) as there are plenty of spot on opinions already available. I wish there was a way of giving 5 stars for the film and then 2 stars for the special features or extras. I have the blu ray copy and was quite disapointed that there was no set visits, deleted/alternate scenes, no cast interviews and there was no BD live connectivity on there either. I had high hopes for the extras following the fantastic viral campaign to promote the films cinematic release. Easter Egg Found. On disc 2 highlight Theatrical trailer 3 and type in slowly 5 6 5 3 7 and you will get a jokerised trailer. Dark Knight = Rhyming Slang ...Maybe that's a bit harsh, although maybe not considering how much hype surrounds this film. "Best film ever" they said. Much to my chagrin I missed it at the cinema, figured owning it on Blu-ray would be the next best thing. I only wish I'd rented it first. Had I not been told at every turn that I would love this film, I wouldn't have bothered with it. It looked to me like just another Batman film. I was really quite disappointed by how little entertainment I got from the Dark Knight. The plot shuffles along, then there's a massive stunt, it shuffles some more, massive stunt (you get the idea) and culminates in a bit of an anti-climax. Not easily entertained by stuff getting blown up alone, at no point was I on the edge of my seat during this film. Too much going on visually, not enough in the a story (if there was one). Biggest let-down since the utterly dire Transformers, I am genuinely sorry to say. I really wouldn't watch it again, in stark contrast to my Casino Royale disc which is almost worn out. As for the Blu-ray presentation, personally I don't like the switching between aspect ratios. Why it couldn't be in 2.40:1 all the way through? What's the point of releasing films in 1080p / 24 FPS "cinematic" format and doing things like that?! Excellent A great film stunningly well transferred onto Blu-ray. The aspect ratio changes for the IMAX portions which look amazing in HD. Highly recommended.
