August DVB-T205 PC/Laptop USB Freeview TV Receiver & Recorder - Support Windows 7/Vista/XP (Electronics)

August DVB-T205 receives and records Freeview TV excellently I wanted to replace a 6 year old Freeview DVBTV which was the size of my hand with a more up to date model. From the product description and reviews I chose the August DVB-T205 PC USB Freeview receiver & recorder. Initially I used the small portable aerial that came with it and got 39 programmes, but then attached a bigger indoor aerial and got 66 programmes. Each time I reset the stations the initial 39 were not replaced, so I had to delete them individually. I have successfully recorded a film from Film 4 and converted it to MPEG-4 and added it to iTunes. Very Good Receiver I am very impressed with this receiver. I had some problems initially, which I think was because I was running windows 7. (The software worked on a computer running Vista) I have to say, August's response to my email requests for advice were the best I have ever experienced. They responded within an hour twice! They gave me a later version of the required software (Total Media 3.5), and it then worked fine with Windows 7. I was surprised how well the small aerial works, depending where you are in the country (I'm a trucker, and use it on nights-out in the truck). The picture quality is excellent when I get a decent signal. When the signal strength is increased in a couple of years I imagine it will be excellent anywhere just about. I guess with a bigger aerial it might be perfect now. The remote control works great too.I recommend this receiver whole-heartedly.

August DVB-T205 TV module The unit is easy to install and works well with a good aerial. Not as good as a digital TV set but very acceptable.

Freeview stick Works ok once its on a half decent antenna, the one supplied isn't very good. Nice remote helps with channel changing. All in all a decent product. John

Works perfectly well. We got this to replace the main telly (which we rarely watched live) and have been totally satisfied so far. Installation was simple and took a few minutes on Windows 7. Set up took a bit longer, as it took a while to find all the channels. The picture is as good as I could want, with usually a '5 bar' reception, which is not bad for an aerial the size of a car's, indoors, in rural Wales. The bottom sucker on the aerial comes off to expose a magnetic plate, this appears to boost the reception when attached to something metal. Minor gripes are that the positioning of the infra-red receptor on the unit faces the wrong way if connected to a righthand USB port and the small cable that is supposed to allow you to position it anyway you want doesn't appear to work. Another is that the record facility doesn't seem to support auto-wake from hibernate and you cannot designate where you want video files to be saved. Other than that, this is a good alternative way to watch and listen to digital television and radio. The bundled software I haven't used a lot, mainly because apart from the television and radio, it is mostly superfluous to me.
