The visually ravishing animated movie Fantastic Mr. Fox follows a fox, voiced by George Clooney and dressed in a natty brown corduroy suit, as he cheerfully and recklessly takes his thieving ways a little too far and brings down the wrath of some sour-faced poultry farmers on his family and friends. Based on a book by children's author Roald Dahl (who wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach), the movie is the work of Wes Anderson (writer-director of Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums), who expanded and elaborated on the original story; the combination is inspired. Anderson's sensibility--his fondness for meticulous compositions, coordinated colors, and narrative filigree--can sometimes seem finicky and stiff in live-action movies, but it's exquisitely suited to the painstaking art of stop-motion animation. Every corner of the screen crackles with visual invention and whimsical humor. The top-notch vocal cast (which also features Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Michael Gambon, Owen Wilson, and others) create vivid personalities that perfectly mesh with the movie's lush colors and luscious textures. Fantastic Mr. Fox is an off-beat gem, a giddy mix of adult emotional issues, wild animal behaviour, and childlike delight.--Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

Good. Although Mr. Fox himself wasn't Fantastic I enjoyed this and I'm sure if you're a child you'll love it.
I saw one persons review on here state that George Clooney was the perfect VO for Mr. Fox - I'd have to disagree with that, as I found him flat and lifeless. In fact I thought he was awful, and by far the worst voice actor and the only thing I didn't really like about this film.
I can't really remember the original story - but it's been expanded on here, so die hard fans might take exception in places, but on the whole it work. Although there are a few odd bits: the wolf for instance - I have no idea what that was all about.
On the whole though and enjoyable watch with some characters in it that I found very comical, especially on a grown up level. Even though Mr. Fox wasn't so fantastic, his supporting crew carried him through.
The film of, course looked great and it's nice to see some stop frame animation again. 7 or 8 out of 10 for me and worth a watch however old you are.
If this review was helpful at all, please give it the thumbs up.
Colourful and beautiful I loved this movie. Its colourful and beautiful to look at and the characters are sharp and funny - some of the facial expressions of the foxes are priceless!
Do not expect a Disney or Pixar type animation though, and neither should you expect a slavish retelling of the novel. Kids might like this movie, I don't know - there are certainly bits of physical comedy that would amuse children.
I can only really comment from my own perspective - that of a 30 year old male with a beard and glasses and slightly arthouse leanings. I had a great time with this and, like all Wes Anderson movies, I will be subjecting it to repeated viewings. Also, look out for the cameo from Jarvis Cocker!
foxy fun Having missed this on it's cinema release. We had to get it on video. It was pretty well worth waiting for. We were going to send it to our grandchildren in NZ,however some of it is was a bit too gruesome and upsetting for young children. It will have to wait until they are older.
Not really that fantastic anymore. If like me you have read the book to your child a few dozen times. Have fond memories of yourself reading the book, over and over again, when you were a child. Then please do not buy this film.
I don't really know what to say, I naively thought that if you had something amazing to copy from then you'd end up with something rather impressive. What I ended up feeling was very similar to when you ask for a Whisky in a bar and a rather stupid barman gives you a Bourbon. Yes technically it is a Whiskey, but it certainly isn't a good one or the right one for that matter.
In an office somewhere, someone who probably hasn't ever read the book, decided that it wasn't going to work as it was. They decided to change the story, then some of the characters and than make it set in America. After all that it seems a crime to name it Fantastic Mr Fox. I am amazed that the main character wasn't changed into a racoon, skunk or bald headed eagle. After all they were happy to have created characters who were beavers and possums.
What makes me very sad, is that Roald Dahl's name is on the front of the box. I can only hope that some of the more intelligent viewers will want to read the book after watching the film. Then they will also be able share in the world that Roald Dahl created, and probably wonder at what the hell the film makers were thinking when they thought they could make it better.
If this comes across as angry then you should spend time trying to explain to a belligerent 4 year old that what they have just watched is Fantastic Mr Fox, but continues to want to know when she is going to watch the actual film of Fantastic Mr Fox.
AWESOME FILM Loved this film, it is fantastic. Even comes with the Itunes link so I can watch it on my ipod. FANTASTIC:)
