Product DescriptionNow this is how you destroy the world. Roland Emmerich's 2012 pounces on a Nostradamus-style loophole in the Mayan calendar and rams the apocalypse through it, gleefully conjuring up an enormous amount of Saturday-matinee fun in the process. A scientist (Chiwetel Ejiofor) detects shifting continental plates and sun flares and realizes that this foretells the imminent destruction of the planet. Just as the molten lava is about to hit the fan, a novelist (John Cusack) takes his kids on a trip to Yellowstone; later he'll hook up with his ex (Amanda Peet) and her new boyfriend (Tom McCarthy) in a global journey toward safety. If there is any safety. The suitably hair-raising plot lines are punctuated--frequently, people, frequently--by visions of mayhem around the globe: the Vatican falls over, the White House is clobbered (Emmerich's Independence Day was not enough on that score), and the California coastline dives into the Pacific Ocean. Unlike other action directors we could name, Emmerich actually understands how to let you see and drink in these vast special-effects vistas--and they are incredible. He also honors the old Irwin Allen disaster-movie tradition by actually shelling out for good actors. Cusack and Ejiofor are convincing even in the cheesiest material; toss in Danny Glover (the U.S. president), Woody Harrelson (a nut-bar conspiracy-theorising radio host), Thandie Newton, and Oliver Platt, and you've got a very watchable batch of people. Emmerich hasn't developed an ear for dialogue, even at this stage in his career, and the final act goes on a bit too long. This is a very silly movie, but if you've got a weakness for B-movie energy and hairbreadth escapes, 2012 delivers quite a bit of both. --Robert Horton Image GalleryClick on a thumbnail on the left to view a larger image on the right.

The latest reviews have been displayed below. best desaster film yet great film best of 2009/10 and brilliant on bluray diffinatley for buying2012 [DVD] [2009] Excellent product 2012 - a great product. It came in great time and in very good condition. Really pleased. I wish the world had ended while I was watching it! Hats off to everyone involved in the making of this film. It is by far the worst thing I have ever seen. Terrible effects, acting, script...the list goes on. On top of this, it also has an unhealthy dose of religious sub-plots...well, I say 'plots'. The only thing that could have made this pile of pap any worse would be God turning up at the end and chanting 'USA, USA!'. Mindless drivel. We were expecting a shallow 'Saturday night' film but ended up with this. Don't ever buy, rent or even think about watching this film. Do yourself a favour and stare at the wall for a couple of hours instead. WHO CARES ? Took me a long time before I watched this. Taken into account the previous movies of the same director,it was obvious to be carefull. I was told that the movie was not so cheesy as the day after tomorrow, but alas I find this one even more. The effects : good, but didn't blow me away. Infact they were done so over-the-top that it didn't come over as real. It reminds me of Bond-movies with so many gimmicks that the essence of espionage is lost. Secondly there are too many carracters used instead of focusing on a few. Spielberg did a better job on that part with War of the worlds. The acting is also boring and I was disappointed in Chiwetel Ejiofor caracter as being a bit too mediate. It was also clear to see that not so much effort was done in the dialogs or rehearsels. Dialogs were sometimes pretty bad and the input of Tandy Newton was ? yeah what ? Saw it , and found it a waste of time. One thing is for sure, if 2012 is reality, I will be happy no longer to see such idioty movies. GREAT FUN Usual american stuff but great fun but don't expect great acting. Blu ray quality picture and sound fantastic. Woke the neighbours up with the world ending. Worth the money to see on blu ray.
